A long stretch

A cool and cloudy start to the day, but Graham & Barry soon warmed up with the hammer work and laid another course on this stint that seems to get longer each week. Extra attention to detail on this more visible section takes time, but will hopefully pay off as a demonstration of our combined skills.

Threatening rain persuaded us to finish at 3pm.

More Markenfield

Pleasant , overcast morning at Markenfield and steady progress from Barry, Duncan and Graham. Barry left at lunchtime , at which point the sun came out and turned on the heat. By two o'clock Duncan and I had had enough and retired. Wall now looking like a wall.

It ain't half hot mum

The day started out quite mild and and easy to work in, enabling Rod and I to do a good site tidy and make sure we made the best of the stone we had available. The fill pile provided a number of previously rejected walling stones and we got started while the sun was still hidden away.

Having kept cool(ish)  for most of the day I foolishly suggested 1 more course. The sun decided to beat mercilessly down on us and make me regret the suggestion.

A lovely if slow day of walling.

Cross site co-ordintaion

Only one site this week meant that Catriona and Rich eschewed their normal haunt at Fellbeck to join Barry at Markenfield. We carried on the recent Markenfieldian tradition of hunting for stone amid the abundance of green growth, and then got down to the task  of putting up 3 more courses.

I will admit to glowing somewhat in the warm Yorkshire sun, I'm sure the other two stayed cool as cucumbers.

A steady stream of walkers praised us for our endeavors and we called it a day at 3.30ish by which time my glowing had moved to the next stage.

Golf Club's at Markenfield

Duncan on other duties this week but a warm welcome to Roderick at Markenfield to maintain a trio with Barry & Graham.
A Range Rover load of ladies from Ilkley Golf Club swept into the car park as we began our walk to site and seemed very interested in what we were doing. Must be Roderick’s magnetism. A brief explanation satisfied their curiosity before they moved on to their guided tour of Markenfield Hall.
Steady progress on the wall, Barry & Graham sharing work on the stile, Roderick‘s mighty hammer ringing against the sandstone cobbles to fashion the fit as further courses were laid. Another warm day for the weary trudge up across the field at the 3.30 finish.
