Wallers Return

A good turn out for a fine days walling. We saw the welcome return of two skivers absentee. Chris came along on his annual pilgrimage to Markenfield to make sure we all remembered how to wall properly, and Paul returned from a shorter break from our collective misadventures. Graham, Barry, Matthew, Catriona, Rodderick and I made up the rest of the team, and we managed a reasonable stint of walling for the day.

A bit of waling

We managed to get a bit of walling done this week - after last weeks demolition job.

Matthew joined last weeks crew (Barry, Graham, Roderick and Me) in the cold but dry winter Markenfield air.  Graham brought the Christmas biscuits, which I think we nearly polished off, and we used a fair amount of cobbles to reach a fair height, on our very wide wall.

Here's the state of play at the end of last week (l) and the end of this (r):

Simply taking down

As it was at the end of one year, so it is with the beginning of the next; we 'ad 4 wallers this week.
In the absence of Ian Curteis, who was down in that London,  Graham, Roderick, Barry and I were welcomed back to the freezing fields of Markenfield by Sarah, who introduced us to the replacement Black Swan. We are reliably informed that the new Swan, who hails from Sutton Bank, will not suffer the fate of it's predecessor since the Swan murdering Otter has eaten all that the Markenfield Moat has to offer and has himself moved to pastures new.
With misty breath we made our way to the wall and did virtually no walling whatsoever; it was a day of taking down, preparation and tidying ready for when the other (proper?) wallers make an appearance.
Here are some exciting pictures of us dismantling stuff;

What we'd done by lunch time

The end of the day - very little building done, but I good base for doing some building next week.
