Fewston Church Car Park

Today’s walling job was at Fewston Church/Washburn Heritage Centre                 (http://www.washburnvalley.org

Following previous work to extend the car park there is now a need to reinstate the small perimeter wall on one side. The length of the wall is about 21 yards with two access gaps and an interesting embrace of a lamp post. The stone had been cleared and the ground prepared for us, and a new surface will be laid on the car park after we have built the wall. The new wall will be about two feet high and partly retaining.

The original aim was to complete the rebuild today. This resulted in a team of nine (Barry, Catriona, Elaine, Graham, Matthew, Paul, Richard H, Richard P and Tony) reporting for duty for an early start at 8.30am.

The sorting of the stone commences whilst being overseen by the “Wicker Man”

Today we enjoyed the use of the facilities at the Heritage Centre for our break periods.
Many thanks to Elaine for organising the tea and coffee and for providing the cakes and biscuits.

Job completed on the curved wall

As we approached 4.00pm it was apparent that we would not be able to complete the task today and would in fact need a further supply of stone to reach the topper height. There was also news that we would be able to return next week, prior to the car park being surfaced.

Back at 8.30am next week to sort the stone delivery and make progress on the remaining courses.
